Yelena Gadzhievna Isinbayeva is a Russian former pole vaulter. She is twice an Olympic gold medalist, three-times a World Champion, the current world record holder in the event, and is widely considered the greatest female pole-vaulter of all time. She is famous for being the first woman to vault over 5 meters and for her many world records. She is also a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Born on 3 June 1982 in the city of Volgograd, Isinbaeva originally trained to be a gymnast, but was soon too tall, and at 15 she refocused her energies on the discipline which would make her a superstar.
