Heike Gabriela Drechsler is a German former track and field athlete who represented East Germany and later Germany. One of the most successful long jumpers of all-time, she is a former world record holder and ranks third on the all-time list with her legal best of 7.48 metres in 1988. Drechsler won Olympic gold medals in the long jump in 1992 and 2000, the only woman to do so. Drechsler has received many awards, including the East German Sportswoman of the Year in 1986, the German Sportswoman of the Year in 1998 and 2000, and the IAAF Distinguished Career Award in 2000. Drechsler wore the Puma Disc, the world's first laceless sports shoe, when she won her first Olympic gold medal in 1992.
