Ewa Janina Klobukowska is a Polish former sprinter. She competed at the 1964 Olympics in the 4×100 m relay and 100 m sprint and won a gold and a bronze medal, respectively. She also won two gold and one silver medal at the 1966 European Athletics Championships. She was considered one of the top European sprinters in the mid-1960s. She won gold medals in the 100 m and 4x100 m relay at the 1964 European Junior Championships and the 1964 Olympics. She also set a world record in the 100 m in 1965. Her career was cut short in 1967 when she became the first athlete to fail a gender verification test and was banned from professional sports. The test was later shown to be inaccurate, and the IAAF annulled her three World records but allowed her to keep her Olympic and European Championships medals. Klobukowska's case changed the way gender testing is conducted. She is now aged 77, received redemption and recognition later in her life. In 1998, she was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, Poland's second-highest civilian award. In 2011, that was upgraded to the Officer's Cross and in 2021 to the Commander's Cross.
